Light a Candle or the Escalator Clause

Light a Candle or Curse the Darkness: The Escalator Clause

Experienced while walking past a delayed elevator with a working escalator a few feet away:

A person was pounding on the “up” button and swearing at the elevator, which was probably still several floors away, safely out of hearing rage range.

I walked to the escalator and made it upstairs just fine.
The quote “it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness” is attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, or an African proverb, or a Chinese proverb.

Whoever said it, thank you.

I love that quote. I love the idea.

It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

Recognize the problem, then get to work on finding a solution.
