From me to you (and to me, too): Shiny Object Syndrome or Safe Zone?

It’s easy to give advice. I think I find it easy to take advice too.

But for me to heed the words that I say to others? Not so easy.

So this one is for both of us.

Shiny object syndrome. When we let something new and exciting and shiny and bright distract us from what we’re really working on.

But wait.

Let’s look at our world not filled with forks in the road but filled with circles that overlap.

Like how our safe zone overlaps our comfort zone. And when we step out of our comfort zone, we’re still safe.

And if we’re noticing a shiny object, we might be seeing an opportunity. Just not a linear one.

A way to get unstuck.

Traction, not distraction.

Don’t turn away from that shiny object too fast.

Walk over to it.

Pick it up.

See if it fits…somehow… into your bigger picture.

You can do it. You’ll be glad you did.

(And so will I!)

See you tomorrow!
