Your Comfort Zone and the Two Crescents (part 3)
Your comfort zone covers what you do every day. What you’re good at. What makes you comfortable. Like a merry-go-round, you’re moving around but not moving forward.
In our illustration there is a crescent just outside of your comfort zone called your safe zone. You can be safe here. This may not be the case 100% of the time, but it is true surprisingly often. The benefit is worth the possible cost. And when you step into your safe zone, and discover that it’s safe, both of your safe and comfort zones get bigger.
On the other side of your comfort zone is another crescent, something I call the deception zone.
Have you become too comfortable with activities, behaviors, routines that hold you in place? Or they keep you comfortable but stunt your growth, blind you to opportunities? Are these activities creating a rut, pinning you down to the point where standing still is not safe anymore? Still in your comfort zone, but not necessarily good for you.
Do you have any behaviors or habits that fall into the Deception Zone? Sometimes we do things just because we always have.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re dangerous, but you might be using resources in a way that slows you down, leads to stagnation… and that can be dangerous.
Get out of your rut!
What do you think?
See you tomorrow.
