Face Front! Friday! The Magic Serum Theorem
On Tuesday, we talked about that moment when someone believes in you, when they hand you the metaphorical magic potion that amplifies your courage, sharpens your focus, and helps you see yourself as powerful.
I got lucky.
The mentors who changed my professional life decided they saw something in me, something I couldn’t yet bring to life. With their help, I figured things out. And things have gone much better ever since.
But we can’t always count on getting lucky. And sitting around waiting for luck is not a strategy.
When my magical opportunity knocked, I had to overcome the strong impulse to not even answer!
As for you: Instead of waiting for opportunity to knock… get up and knock on someone’s door.
Be somebody’s opportunity.
If you’re the mentor, open your eyes to find someone who needs you, someone whose potential just needs that spark of belief that you can provide.
If you’re the mentee, look around. Someone may be waiting for your encouragement to step forward.
Because the truth is, this magic serum theorem doesn’t just work one way.
This potion is brewed between people: belief given and belief received.
There’s an old saying: when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
But sometimes, the teacher is just waiting for the student to be ready.
And sometimes the student is ready, but doesn’t know it yet. Like me, back then.
In keeping with our You Own Your Origin Story theme, think of Steve Rogers… Captain America of comic books and movies.
It might have looked like luck when Dr. Erskine chose the frail Rogers for the experiment that turned him into Captain America. But Erskine wasn’t looking for muscles… he was looking for so much more. He was looking for heart.
The real magic wasn’t in the serum. It was in the match.
So, who will you believe in today?
Who needs a dose of your amazing magic?
You own your origin story. And when you share it, when you help someone else believe, you become part of their story.
That’s what You Own Your Origin Story (YOYOS) is all about: helping you see the power inside your own narrative.
I’ve got another one for you. See you here on Tuesday.

You own your origin story. Message me if I can help you claim it and build your superpower portfolio.
