Face Front! Friday! Slow and Steady at the Crossroads
To this day, I have clients and students seeking the fastest path to who knows where.
As long as they get somewhere, anywhere, as quickly as possible.
With little regard for the opportunities they might miss… or the baggage they might accumulate… on the road they go racing down.
In the real world, career crossroads rarely announce themselves.
On Tuesday we learned about Tony’s crossroads. Many directions, but he could only choose one.
Tony’s moment is one many professionals recognize, especially after a tough stretch.
They show up disguised as:
- “This will get you promoted faster.”
- “Everyone else is doing it.”
- “You can figure the rest out later.”
Do you grab the quickest win, or do you invest in becoming stronger?
Choosing skill-building, like project management training, isn’t flashy. It doesn’t always come with immediate validation.
But it does something more important.
It restores agency. You’re not waiting to be chosen. You’re betting on yourself.
It aligns effort with values. Growth without self-betrayal lasts longer.
In mentoring conversations, this is often the hardest truth to accept: the right move doesn’t always reward you immediately, but it will respect you in the long run.
When the future feels unclear, resist the panic pivot.
Ask more questions.
Listen to what you already know about yourself.
Sometimes patience isn’t hesitation. It’s strategy.
Be a vector… with magnitude and direction.
