Face Front Friday: Between Weakness and Your Power is a Magic Wall
On Tuesday, we talked about the “Magic Wall,” those moments when your back is against the wall and pressure forces growth.
Now let’s translate that into language that works in interviews, applications, and profiles.
Understand that no one hires you for having a hard story.
They hire you for what you gained from the experience. How you changed. They hire you for what the pressure produced.
When your back was against the wall, what did you do?
Instead of “I had no choice.”
Say: “That experience accelerated my ability to…”
Instead of: “I had to figure it out.”
Say: “I developed the ability to…”
Your boundaries might actually be your path.
“I developed disciplined sales habits because my income depended on performance.”
“I learned to rebuild trust through consistent delivery.”
“I became skilled at aligning people under tight deadlines.”
Your “superpowers” aren’t fantasy. You own your origin story.
I’ve had my own Magic Wall moments. What they exposed wasn’t weakness, it was unrefined potential. Admitting vulnerability and accepting guidance allowed me to turn raw ability into disciplined strengths that now serve others.
The question isn’t: “What happened to you?”
It’s: “What did it teach you to do well?”
Answer that clearly, and you’re not telling a hardship story.
You’re telling a leadership story.
When your back was against the wall, what strength did it sharpen that you still rely on today?
