Any Ol’ Kind of Run Will Do It

Have you ever paralyzed yourself with perfectionism when all you really needed was to cross the finish line?
It doesn’t have to be spectacular or loud or flashy.
It might not be the ideal and that might be okay.
I grew up watching the ends of Chicago Cubs losses after school every day, and back then the Cubs TV announcer was named Jack Brickhouse. He wasn’t as oversized or as legendary as his successor, Harry Caray, but then again, Jack (also legendary) would shout “Wheee!” when he was really enjoying the ballgame.
And if the Cubs had a rare chance to win at the end of the game, Jack would implore them: “Any ol’ kind of run will do it!”
This philosophy applies beautifully to our creative and professional lives. We often stall projects waiting for perfect conditions or flawless execution. But what if we embraced Brickhouse’s pragmatism instead?
Can you look at something that you want to finish… or want to start… and move yourself forward knowing that any ol’ kind of run will do it?
So often, done is better than perfect.
Push the run across the plate so you can come back and start the next project… or the next game.
What do you think?
See you tomorrow!
