Exceed reality

Do you like the phrase “underpromise and overdeliver”?

That’s a pretty well-known saying.

I’m not a fan.

If you underpromise too much, you won’t even get the job or coveted project.

Rather than build low expectations, it’s better to work with your boss, your client, your partner, and get them excited about what you can create together.

Realistically. And maybe beyond.

So instead, manage expectations.

Then, exceed those expectations.

This approach leads to growth rather than just playing it safe. It’s about stretching toward excellence rather than hiding from disappointment.
